BALLOONS OVER AFRICA is a non-scheduled airline, licensed and approved by the Civil Aviation Authority, offering Hot Air Balloon flights in the beautiful Sabie River Valley, near Hazyview, Mpumalanga.

The balloon launch site is situated at Sabie River Adventures, about 11km from Hazyview, on the Sabie Road. On arrival at the launch site, just before sunrise, passengers are offered tea, coffee and biscuits and have the opportunity to watch the preparation of the balloon for flight.

The flight lasts about an hour and takes passengers over small hills and hidden valleys, where the foothills of the mountains begin. The vegetation is a mix of riverine forest, indigenous bush and fruit orchards, and the sub-tropical climate ensures that the area is green and lush almost all year round. This is a beautiful ballooning venue!

On landing we serve Cape sparkling wine to celebrate the flight in the champagne ballooning tradition. Passengers are returned by road to the launch site to collect their vehicles before being taken to a nearby country venue for breakfast, and the presentation of flight certificates.

Casual clothes are the most comfortable, and we suggest that passengers wear long pants and closed shoes. The temperature during the flight will be more or less the same as that on the ground, so if passengers are comfortable when they go outdoors, they should be adequately dressed for the early morning. Once the sun comes up, the day heats up quite quickly, so light clothing under the jacket or sweater is a good idea.

Passengers can make their own way to the launch site - we will provide a map and detailed directions. If they prefer, we will arrange to meet them at their hotel and bring them to the launch site, returning them to their hotel after the flight..

BALLOONS OVER AFRICA can take up to a maximum of 8 passengers per flight, depending on passengers- weights and the ambient temperature. We will generally confirm up to 6 passengers, and only accept more if the total group weight permits. The small group size allows us to offer personal attention to each passenger.

The flight lasts about an hour, but passengers should allow 3 - 4 hours for the excursion, from the time of their arrival at the launch site until after breakfast.
