The Dhow - They have been sailing the East-African coast for centuries
.They typically has a single mast and a triangular lateen sail ,usually made of
cotton. In Mozambique they are still handcrafted like the first Arabic ones that
came to this coast.
A dhow trip became one of the number one items on the �bucket list� of many
travellers as something they must do .
The Inhambane Estuary � It provides a range of goods and services to
communities living nearby and are important nursery areas for many fish ,
invertebrates and bird species .
Porcos Island - The Inhambane group of islands includes Bazaruto ,
Benguera , Lunene , Madenga , Porcos , Ratos Santa Carolina and Santa Isabel .
Porcos is situated more or less 7 km . from Barra Lake and Sea Resort .
Estuary Reef � Very quiet waters for excellent snorkelling . See a
variety of reef fishes and other marine life . The Reef is 20 minutes walk from
Barra Lake and sea.
Sea horse walking trail � A walk in the lagoon with an experience guide
with the main aim of finding seahorses.
Crab breeding - An expedition taking you to the heart of crab living .
See how they live and also how they are catched .
Star fish walking trail � This trial takes more or less 3 hours during
low-tide and takes you to the large colonies of star fishes .The walk is also
combined with a route to take you to the Pansy shells . An experienced guide
also point out all maritime live .
Prawn catching � This happens only at night and you can be guided to
witness he catching of prawns . To be in he middle of the estuary a night ,
gives a adrenalin filled experience .
The estuary can be explored from Barra Lake and Sea in different ways .
Setting off early in the morning with a Dhow to Porcos Island . Meeting the
people and visit their small informal restaurant . Mingle and enjoy their way of
living . From Porcos you go to Pansy Island for a picnic and to pick up Pansy
shells .
At high tide the exploring is done by kayaks and flat boards.
During low tide you can do one of the many different walks with a guide or
just go snorkelling at the Estuary Reef .
