The Northern Farm Nature Reserve is an area of mixed of highveld habitats
roughly 1600ha large. Here you can find peace and tranquility without having to
kill yourself climbing any huge peaks or across difficult terrain. Popular for
its proximity to Joburg, the Nature Reserve is a safe and protected area which
one can enjoy any length walk whilst simply strolling through our lush and
beautiful surroundings. Northern Farm is shared with many recreational users and
one will be sure to encounter bird watchers, horse riders and numerous MTB
cyclists.
The highveld habitats include grassland areas which are heavily grazed by
cattle, reedbeds and grassland areas, agricultural fields and cattle kraals. The
wetland habitat is represented by farm dams and irrigation canals, with riverine
vegetation along the Jukskei River. There are stands of exotic trees,
particularly poplars, which providing breeding habitat for a number of raptor
species, throughout the Northern Farm Nature Reserve.
Open Times:
The Reserve is only open on weekends and public holidays from 6:30am to 6:00pm
The access Card Office closes at 3pm
