SA Adventure Trails
Hiking / Wilderness Trails
in Drakensberg Gardens Area, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
The Giants Cup Hiking Trail is part of the Drakensberg Park National Hiking Way.
Wilderness Area , a World Heritage Site, and normally takes 5 days to complete.
A new concept in
"luxury hiking" or
"slack-packing" has recently been introduced by SA Adventure Trails for the Drakensberg, and the Giants Cup Trail in particular. This is intended for people who enjoy walking, are reasonably fit and would like to experience the pleasures of hiking a multi day trail in the mountains without having to carry a pack with all their own food and equipment. Hikers walk the trail with a guide during the day but stay at comfortable lodges at night where all meals and comforts are provided for.
Services offered by
SA Adventure Trails on a "luxury hiking trail" are :
- Professional Guiding and Back-Up Support
- Overnight Accommodation (private guest lodges)
- Full Catering Facilities (dinner, bed and breakfast and a packed lunch)
- Luggage Transfer from Lodge to Lodge
- Pick Up from End Point of Hike.
- Safe Parking of Vehicles during the Hike
Departures are organized for the spring and autumn months when the weather is at its best. Groups are welcome to form their own parties or join one of the scheduled hikes planned for March to May, or September to November. Participating lodges in the Giants Cup Hikeathon include
Seaforth Country Lodge (in the
Sani Pass area),
Briar Lea (Cobham Valley) and
Orchid Valley Lodge (Drakensberg Gardens).
