Situated between the beautiful Magaliesburg and Witwatersberg mountain ranges in the sleepy hollow
of Buffelsfontein.
Stone Meadows is an absolute joy for 'Horsy People'. Eleanor, the owner, is a qualified BHS
instructor and is keen to teach you, upgrade you or just take you trekking in the surrounding
countryside on a variety of out rides to suit your time and skill requirements.
All students are required to participate in a 'join up' session. A student should understand why
horses behave and respond the way they do. This will be beneficial throughout their riding and
working with a horse.
JOIN UP
Involves working with equus (communication of the horse).
A horse is a flight animal, therefore when he is frightened he runs. Horses prefer to be in a herd,
safety in numbers. In the wild, the alpha mare will discipline the herd. She will chase any
misbehaved horses out of the herd. Only after they show signs of being submissive will she allow
them back in.
We work in a round pen and chase the horse out, when the correct signals are given; the horse is
allowed back in to 'join up' with us. The horse then follows, placing his trust in us and is ready
to work together.
A student should understand why horses behave and respond the way they do. This will be beneficial
throughout their riding and working with a horse.
TACKING UP
Taught to ensure students are qualified in the correct fitting of tack, for safety of the rider and
comfort of the horse.
POINT OF GRAVITY
Students will be taught the 'balanced riding seat' (riding over the horses point of gravity) where
all natural aids (hands, legs, seat and voice) are applied with as little interference to the horses
movement as possible. Therefore, allowing the horse to move with a balanced, free flowing forward
movement.
OUTRIDES
Clients coming through for an outride will be given basic instruction before they go out on the
ride.
All people participating in any riding activity on the premises is required to wear a riding hat,
which will be provided.
TARIFFS
R100 per person for a 1hr group lesson
R200 per private 1hr lesson
R225 per person for a 1 and a half hour out ride, minimum 2 people
R100 per person per hour there after
R100 per person per dam swim (weather permitting)
Payments by electronic transfer preferred.
