The Rhodes area is ideal for the 4x4 and bike enthusiast. Steep mountain tracks (up to 2750m) and challenging river crossings test your technical driving skills. Trails range from easy to very difficult.

Wild Mountain Adventures can provide maps and suggested itineraries for all types of vehicle and standard of driver. Guides and picnic lunches can also be arranged upon request.

For the ultimate challenge, see if you can complete the 'Eight Passes Challenge' which includes Naude's Nek (the highest dirt road in South Africa) and many of the area's most scenic spots including:

Naude's Nek – The highest pass in South Africa
Joubert's Pass – The third highest pass in South Africa
Volunteershoek – Up to Tiffindell Ski Resort and the highest peak in the Cape
Carlisleshoek – From Ben McDhui (3,001m) to historic Rhodes Village
Lundean's Nek – Scenic drive through the former Transkei to the Lesotho border
Bastervoetpad – Extreme driving, stunning views and awesome birding
Barkly Pass – A tarred road, but with amazing rock formations
Otto Du Plessis – Another great birding route.

In addition to the mountain passes, we can offer some excellent off-road 4x4 trails on the farms varying in difficulty from easy to extreme. Through the kindness of our neighbouring farmers we have literally thousands of hectares available for our off road tours and show you mountain peaks, river gorges, bushman paintings and waterfalls.

For a more complete experience of the area Wild Mountain Adventures can offer a wide range of optional activities including fly-fishing, hiking, horse riding, river rafting and overnight camping trips.
