We're two hours from Durban and six hours from Johannesburg - tarred roads all the way.
Bentwood Inn has three thatched cottages - of which two are self-catering should guests wish to go this route. The cottages - Giant Kingfisher, Lilac-Breasted Roller and Crested Barbet - are all en-suite and have television sets.
Giant Kingfisher has a queen-sized bed, kitchenette, shower, toilet and hand basin.
Crested Barbet has two single beds, shower, toilet, hand basin and tea and coffee-making facilities.
Our biggest cottage - Lilac-Breasted Roller - consists of a bedroom with queen-sized bed upstairs, a bathroom, kitchen and lounge/dining-room downstairs with a double sleeper couch. The cottage - like our other units - has its own braai facilities.
Nestling just outside
Southern Drakensberg (a World Heritage site), we offer our guests a tranquil and scenic setting in which to relax.
Our area offers more fly-fishing opportunities than anywhere else in South Africa.
We're a hop-skip-and-a-jump away from the spectacular
Sani Pass. A trip up Sani Pass will take you to the highest pub in Southern Africa. If you don't drive a 4x4, we'll arrange your Sani Pass adventure for you.
Bentwood Inn's proximity to Ukahlamba Drakensberg Park, a hiker's paradise, makes it an ideal base for day walks and hikes. The San Rock Art in the area is legendary.
Golfing, mountain biking, river-tubing, canoeing and paragliding are popular activities in the area.
Tennis, squash and bowls are well-catered for and visitors enjoy local events like agricultural shows, polo matches and fairs.
When the snow arrives, the area is cloaked in a mantle of white. This is when snow-lovers head for the hills to romp in the snow or simply sit back and enjoy the spectacular vistas which winter creates.
For bird-watchers, the
Underberg area is home to a huge variety of our feathered friends and many of them visit the seed trays and bird baths in the garden at Bentwood Inn.
