Blue Horizon is a private residence in Umzumbe on the Kwa-Zulu Natal South
Coast. The cottage is situated on an acre of sea-facing property with an exotic
view of the tranquil Indian Ocean - from beach to horizon.
The cottage has 3 enormous bedrooms which can accommodate 8 people comfortably.
The main bedroom with bathroom en suite is sea facing and has a separate patio.
The second bedroom consists of a king size bed and double bunk beds. The third
bedroom has a queen size bed. A large kitchen is equipped with all the necessary
paraphernalia for the most discerning chef. Spacious lounge, bar and dining
areas are suitable for family gatherings and open-air relaxation. A huge shady
patio, the focal point of the cottage, has a built-in braai and is designed for
soaking up the sun while being mesmerized by the vastness of the peaceful
turquoise sea as it gently ebbs against the shore.
The majestic sloping garden is a display of indigenous trees and beautiful mown
lawn for the kids to play or an after-dinner stroll, where one can discover an
array of birdlife including exotics like the fascinating Green Pigeon and the
Purple Crested Loerie. Double lock-up garages provide additional security.
Situated 150 metres from the waters-edge on a gradually sloping walkway, the
beach directly in front of the cottage is rather private with natural swimming
rock pools and outcrops for angling. For youngsters, or those wanting slightly
more action, the main life-guarded beach is an amazing 600 metre adventure along
an unspoilt fine-sand beach where small shells and thriving rock pools can be
explored while having your feet gently massaged by waves as they caress the
almost-white beaches.
There are numerous restaurants in the vicinity and range from the inexpensive to
gourmet style. The Oribi Gorge, Umtamvuna and Vernon Crookes Nature Reserves,
and two nearby crocodile farms are wonderful day trips. The South Coast offers
some of the best rock, surf and deep sea fishing spots in S.A. From right in
front of the cottage to at least 20 other prime locations the fishing is
supreme, with deep sea boats going out almost daily. Golfers can tackle some
world-class courses like the Wild Coast Sun, Selbourne, San Lameer and Durban
Country Club. Many other challenging courses will make your stay memorable -
Scottburgh. Depending on your activity
level (or that of your kids) there are hectically busy beaches 20 minutes away
or more serene coves and lazy walks right on your door step.
A drive along the coast road through indigenous forests is made more pleasurable
as you meander through small, friendly villages dotted along the road offering
ocean view coffee shops, produce markets, antique shops, boutiques and a variety
of small craft markets. For the serious shopper large shopping malls are 20
minutes way by car. For the daring, The Wild Coast Sun and Durban casinos are
less than an hour away.
There is a colour TV with a DStv decoder although it will be necessary to bring
your own DSTV card. The house is a non-smoking area but the 3 patios provide
ample area for those so inclined.
To ensure carefree relaxation, cleaning staff can be arranged for the duration
of your stay to wash dishes, clean house or do the laundry.
