Caversham Mill Manor, a four star graded establishment, is a beautiful, old,
yellowwood and stone house, situated in the heart of the KwaZulu Natal Midlands
Meander. It has been fully restored and now offers three unique and private
suites for those who have a taste for accommodation of distinction. Two of the
suites are double rooms, each with their own bathroom, and open onto their own
deck areas. The third is a family suite, consisting of two bedrooms separated
by a bathroom. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and kettle are supplied and topped up
daily in each suite. All suites are serviced on a daily basis. Guests have
access to the common areas in the Manor: a casual TV lounge with log fireplace
in close proximity to the open plan kitchen (only used when the whole house is
booked by one group) and dining area; a formal lounge, also with an antique log
fireplace and a library. All suites have telephones as cell phone reception can
be intermittent. Outdoor deck and veranda areas are ideal relaxing and a braai
with plenty of wood is supplied.
Suite 4 is a family suite with 2 bedrooms (each bedroom has two single beds).
The bathroom is between the two bedrooms.
Suite 5 is a double room with an en suite bathroom - bath and shower (the
bedroom has a king bed that can also be converted to two single beds, and a
sleeper couch).
Suite 6 is a double room with an en suite bathroom - bath and shower (the
bedroom has a queen bed in it and a sleeper couch).
The Manor opens onto rolling grassed lawns. A decked pathway leads through a
wetland area down to the Lions River which runs in a semicircle around the
property. A stroll along the well maintained paths will bring guests to the
confluence of the Lions and Impafana Rivers, where it is pleasant to swim or
picnic.
And within a few metres from the Manor is the Caversham Mill Restaurant and the
ruins of the old Mill which is in the process of being restored. Manor guests
can enjoy excellent food (breakfast and lunch seven days a week; and dinner from
Wednesday to Saturday) on an á la carte basis.
Founders Gallery at Caversham Mill
The Midlands Meander was the very first crafters ramble established in South
Africa, and Caversham Mill is where it all began in 1985. Caversham Mill has set
up a small gallery next to the Caversham Mill Restaurant, where guests can view
the current work of David Walters. And continuing a family tradition, David's
daughter - Sarah - has become an excellent potter in her own right. Her work is
also on display in Founders Gallery at Caversham Mill.
