Greystone Lodge offers three star accommodation and facilities on a private
nature reserve in the Mpumalanga Highlands. Situated just off the N4 between
Dullstroom and within easy reach of the Blyde River
Canyon, Pilgrim's Rest and Kruger Park, it is an ideal base for touring and a
perfect location for a quiet break from the city.
The accommodation at Greystone Lodge consists of one, two and three-bedroom
self-contained chalets. All have extensive views over the property and Dam, are
fully equipped for self-catering and are complete with bedding and towels. A
conference centre/function room and Lapa can also be booked by the day for
groups or private parties.
The chalets are available on a Self-Catering or Bed & Breakfast basis. Guests
wishing to take all meals at the Lodge may do so, but prior bookings for evening
meals (other than bar food) are essential.
Each of the chalets has a fully-equipped kitchen/lounge/dining room, with a real
log fire and quality furnishings. Bedrooms are all furnished to an equally high
standard and are complete with bed linens and towels.
Each chalet has its own gardens, deck and outdoor braai, for which firewood is
provided free. All accommodation is serviced daily. Main lodge apartments have a
private balcony and gas fireplace, a large lounge with TV and a separate,
fully-equipped, kitchen. All accommodation has extensive views over the property
and Dam.
One Bedroom Chalets
Chalets 1 and 2, our one-bedroom timber-built chalets, designed for two persons,
consist of an open-plan lounge/kitchen furnished to a high standard. The double
bedroom has an en-suite shower and there are a table and chairs on the deck
outside overlooking a small garden, braai area and private parking, with views
over the property.
Two Bedroom Chalets
Chalets 3 to 7, our two-bedroom chalets, designed for four persons, are
brick-built and consist of an open-plan lounge/kitchen furnished to a high
standard. The master bedroom is a double and the second has twin beds offering
flexibility for small groups or families. A table and chairs on the verandah
outside the chalet overlook a small garden, braai area and private parking, with
views across the property.
Three Bedroom Chalet
Chalet 8, our three-bedroom chalet is designed for six persons and consists of
two double bedrooms and a third with twin beds. The larger of the double
bedrooms has an en-suite bath and shower, whilst the other bedrooms share a
second shower.
The open-plan lounge/dining area/kitchen is particularly spacious and again
furnished to a very high standard. Tables and chairs are set on the deck which
runs the whole width of the front of the chalet to give plenty of space for
entertaining. The deck offers open views across the dam, with a private braai
area immediately in front.
Activities & Facilities Available
The Main Lodge building and attached function rooms offer a Bar, Restaurant,
Private Function/Conference Room, Indoor Braai and Lapa, all of which are
available to guests.
The Function/Conference Room and Lapa may be booked separately for private
parties. Advance booking of these facilities is essential in this case.
Game and Bird Viewing
On the 183 hectares of our Private Nature Reserve you will see a considerable
amount of game and birdlife. Large herds of Blesbok roam the property, together
with Duiker, Oribi and Steenbok. Smaller game includes the fascinating Meercat,
Aardvark, Porcupine, Guinea Fowl and Francolin.
The trout dam and the wetlands beside it are home to a very wide variety of
birds and small mammals
Walks/Trails
At the highest part of the Property at 2000 metres is Maraiskop - one of several
natural outcroppings of rock. Views from this area are outstanding and the rock
valleys below it offer many natural picnic sites and walking trails. Owners of
4x4 vehicles and mountain bikes are welcome to explore the many trails on the
property.
Trout Fishing
Our spring-fed dam is always well-stocked with Trout and guests are welcome to
try their hand on either a catch and release or, if they prefer, a catch and eat
basis. Fly-fishing tuition is also available from novice to expert on an
individual or group basis.
Horse Riding
Whilst we do not keep horses on the property, neighbours offer horse riding,
trails and tuition at all levels of experience.
Day trips/Tours
The Lodge is well-situated for tours of this very scenic area, since the Blyde
River Canyon, Sabie, Pilgrims' Rest and even the Kruger Park are all within easy
reach.
Archery & Clay Pigeon Shooting
Are available at a nearby lodge, together with instruction if required. We can
offer clay pigeon shooting on the property.
Golf
Our golf driving range is now ready for guest use and there is a 18 hole golf
course at Belfast which is open to our guests for a small charge.
Conference Facilities
The private function facilities consist of a conference/function room, equipped
with wood-burning stove, whiteboard, projection screen, flip charts etc, with
theatre-style seating for a maximum of 32 persons. The room is however laid out
as required, with additional equipment such as projector, computer, TV/VCR being
available on request at a nominal charge.
This room can also be laid out as a private dining room for small groups. A
booking for this room includes use of the Lapa.
Adjoining the function room is an indoor 1.2m spit-braai, a fully equipped
kitchen and preparation area, with additional tables and seating outside under
the Lapa. Beside the Lapa is a fire-pit, popular with groups using the area in
the evenings. The whole facility therefore lends itself to small conferences and
seminars, away-days and private functions for a maximum of 32 persons, although
by arrangement other areas in the main lodge may be utilised to provide
additional space.
