The Cowey Road area of Durban is just a few blocks away from the Durban CBD and surrounded on three sides by Greyville Race Course, the Botanical Gardens and Berea Park. It doesn't stop there, because right in the centre of the race course is located the Royal Durban Golf Club, a links type golf course that is one of the few in the world to be situated in such a position. The course is known for it's punishing rough as it is the only defense it has (apart from the prevailing Southerly winds) as large or bulky trees and bushes are not allowed for the simple reason that they would obscure the view of the race track.
Also situated close to Cowey Road is the famous Essenwood Craft Market, set under a glorious canopy of luscious, evergreen trees which keeps the day cool and makes for a very pleasant meander through the aisles of stalls arrayed with beautiful, unique and interesting products. You can find a complete cross section of crafts here, including Art, Clothing, Collectibles, Eastern, Ethnic, Fashion Accessories, Flowers & Plants, Home Décor, Jewellery, Kiddies, a Food Court, Shoes & Bags and Soaps & Cosmetics. Cowey Road is an excellent central start point for many of Durban's attractions.
