Places of interest in the PMB area include the nearby Lion Park near Camperdown and the KZN Railway Museum at Mason's Mill.

The annual Dusi Canoe Marathon takes place every Summer starting at the Umsindusi River ( Dusi River).

The Comrades Marathon which begins (or ends) in Pietermaritzburg, attracts  runners from around the world to participate in this grueling  90 km ultramarathon.

The nearby Idube Raceway near Camperdown holds regular events for go-karting and motorcycle enthusiasts.
