The picturesque town of Groblersdal was founded in 1938 on the farm Klipbank and named after its owner, WJ Grobler. It is located in the Olifants
River's irrigation area below Loskop Dam between Marble Hall and Middleburg, and this has given rise to intensive irrigated farming in the area. There
is a total of more than 28800 hectares under irrigation in five schemes. The combination of water supply and good soil conditions has made this one of
the most fertile agricultural regions of South Africa, the gross annual production exceeding R250 million. The Loskop Valley captures the Summer sun
and provides an all the year round climate for hiking, boating and horse riding. Local game farms are open to hunters and bow-hunters in season. There
is an Aventura resort at the local Loskop Dam and the Loskop Marathon is run annually.
