Kranspoort Dorp is a small village that is situated just below Loskop Dam and about 35 kilometres to the North of Middleburg. Little happens in this sleepy little dorp surrounded by the natural vegetation of the region, which is generally grassland, with isolated spots of shrubs and trees. Farming in the area is comprised of potatoes, maize and sunflowers. The village is just a five minute drive from the Mpumalanga Nature Reserve at Loskop Dam. For biologists Loskop's chief attraction is its varied bushveld vegetation, which shows a transition from the lush trees and shrubs of the lowveld to the grasslands that dominate higher altitudes. Visitors to this reserve will find a wide variety of wildlife species, including white rhino, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, waterbuck and sable. Tours of the reserve can be made from the nearby Aventura resort.
