Nhlangano, situated in the Southern District of Shiselweni, is the fourth
largest town in Swaziland, and the largest in the district. Formerly known as
Goedgegun,the town's name was changed to Nhlangano, meaning "the meeting place".
King George of England met with King Sobuza in the town in 1947. Somewhat
remotely situated, Nhlangano lies set amongst rolling hills and woods, and
services a large agricultural and timber industry.
Attractions in Nhlangano are few, however the town does have a number of
hotels, cafes and supermarkets, and even a casino. Most visitors to Nhlangano
simply use the town as a place to change money before leaving to explore other
areas of Swaziland. Nearby attractions in the Shiselweni District include
Mahamba George, the Swazi candle factory, the Mlilwane Game Sanctuary, The
National Swazi museum, and the Hlane Game Reserve which boasts the Big Five.
Facilities in the area include motorcross & 4x4 Track, a golf course, hiking
trails, fishing, canoeing and the Swaziland national airport. |
