Umhlanga Easter Festival

NO COMMISSION SINCE 1998

Umhlanga Easter Festival

Umhlanga Tourism will be hosting an Easter Festival on Umhlanga’s Main Beach and Millenium stage from Easter Saturday the 11th of April until Tuesday the 14th of April. Games, competitions and entertainment suitable for the whole family will keep visitors to the beach occupied from 10am to 2pm daily. The BnB Sure Jazz on the Rocks, an open-air Jazz concert scheduled for Sunday the 12th of April from 3pm to 6pm, takes place on the grass area next to Umhlanga’s iconic lighthouse. Events are free and all are welcome.

Each of the four days’ activities on the stage will feature a mix of fun competitions to keep children occupied. Young ones can have their fill with ice-cream eating and cola-drinking contests, join in the sing-along show, strut their stuff at the mini talent show, hunt for Easter eggs, and meet the Easter Bunny. Beach games include mini soccer, egg throwing, treasure hunt and egg-and-spoon races, and for adults and kids, the mighty tug-o’-war. Jazz on the Rocks, this year generously sponsored by Dave Jack of BnB Sure, features The George Mari Band. This four-piece ensemble will play a mix of popular Jazz pieces, original compositions and Afro-Jazz numbers. Ideal for a lazy Sunday afternoon, families are encouraged to bring a picnic and blanket or folding chairs, and to sit back and enjoy the music in this beautiful beachside setting.

With over 80 Bed ‘n Breakfast and Guesthouse establishments, five hotels, seven time-share resorts and several hundred self-catering apartments in this northern sector of Ethekwini, Umhlanga is capable of accommodating hundreds of visitors. Peter Rose, chairman of Umhlanga Tourism since 2005, said that because of this it was imperative that holiday events appeal to holidaymakers of all ages.

“We anticipate that Umhlanga will see the usual influx of tourists this Easter and we hope that the weather is kind to us. If it is then the visitors are sure to enjoy the good, clean family entertainment that we have laid on for them at the beach this season.”

Sponsored by Durban Tourism, BnB Sure, Gateway Theatre of Shopping and International Bank Vaults, the event is conducted by Makulu Event Producers and organised by Umhlanga Tourism. Contact Umhlanga Tourism on 031 561 4257 for further details.

Lily and Mia Collins can’t wait to see the Easter Bunny at the Umhlanga Tourism Easter Festival.
