The Old House museum near Albert Park is located in a replica of an old colonial house that once in 1849 belonged to John Goodricke. Goodricke was a settler and builder under the Byrne emigration scheme to Natal and was also the mayor of Durban between 1858 and 1859. The site of the Old House museum was donated to the city by George Churton Collins. Construction of the house was undertaken by the Durban city council, and the Old House museum was opened to the public in June of 1954. It is a house typical of any early Durban settler and contains an interesting collection of artifacts from the 19th century which includes various items of clothing and old furniture relevant to the period. The entire scene is an excellent representation of Durban life in the 1800s.

The Old House museum also features a recreation of the home of the Robinsons who were one of Durban's most prominent families at the time. Sir John Robinson was the first Prime Minister of Natal, as well as being the owner of the Natal Mercury, Durban's daily morning newspaper. The displays housed within the Old House museum document the lifestyle of the upper middle class settlers, the city's first elite. Items displayed include antique furniture, clocks and china, alongside life size mannequins of the family dressed in the fashion of the era.

The walls of the Old House museum are decorated with original oil paintings displaying views of nineteenth century Durban stretching to the harbour. Another notable exhibit featured in the Old House museum is a unique autographed cloth, hand embroidered with the names of many of the provinces' great political figures of the time. The park like grounds display a post cart (c. 1898) used to smuggle Natal's former Prime Minister H Escombe from Dundee to Greytown during the South African War which occurred between 1900 and 1902, and an ox wagon from the Normandien Farm in the Newcastle area.
