Crocworld located just outside of Scottburgh on the KwaZulu Natal south coast
provides visitors with more than the usual crocodile farm experience. Crocworld
offers a complete an unique wildlife experience, with a wide range of
informative displays and interesting activities suitable for all ages across the
spectrum. The primary income of the farm is obtained from farming the crocodiles
for their skins, and meat.
The farm is set within a thirty hectare botanical garden, consisting of various
indigenous plants and trees, and attracts over two hundred various species of
birds. The meandering pathways allow visitors to take a scenic stroll while
enjoying the scenic grounds and abundance of birdlife, and occasionally vervet
monkeys, mongose, bushbuck, and both blue and grey duiker can be seen along the
forest edge. Within the gardens of Crocworld there is an educational centre
which sheds light on the technical aspects, and general knowledge of the world's
crocodile and alligator species. The farm's main attractions are the ten
thousand nile crocodiles , which vary in age and size from newborn hatchlings to
century old monsters. The crocs are housed in spacious ponds, complete with man
made islands and scenic surrounds.
Included in the various displays is the popular walk through raptor aviary,
which covers an area of over a thousand square meters, and houses Isis the hand
reared fish eagle. Crocworld's Snake Tunnel and Fresh Water Aquarium allows
visitors to view some of the most venomous snakes and magnificent tropical fish
in Africa. The Green Mamba breeding program is of special interest, as well as
the collection of exotic snake species which include over three meter long
Anacondas. Crocworld also includes a collection of various Alligators, African
Dwarf Crocodiles and African Long Snouted Crocodiles. Visitors can take
advantage of the opportunity to watch the crocs being fed, which happens once a
day, and causes a lot of excitement.
Also in the premises is the Crocodilian Restaurant, where visitors can enjoy a
la carte meals while taking in awesome views of the Indian Ocean. The restaurant
also has a crocodile menu for the adventurous, and serves Croc Burgers,
Crocodile Ribs and succulent Croc steaks. Crocworld Curio shop is sure to have
something for everyone, and sells a large range of hats , shirts, curios,
various Crocodile Leather products, Children's toys and Refreshments.
