East London Aquarium

The East London Aquarium opened its doors 1931, making it the oldest aquarium in Southern Africa. Today, the aquarium continues to delight and educate visitors with it's beautiful displays of marine life, and entertaining seal shows.

Whale Deck
The recently constructed whale deck, with binoculars is a great place to view migrating southern right whales, humped-back whales, and the ever-present bottle-nose dolphins.

Breeding Colony of Penguins
The East London Aquarium has a very successful breeding program for African penguins, exported penguin chicks to marine aquariums around the world.

Rehabilitation Pool
Every year hundreds of marine animals, including turtles, seals, dolphins, penguins, and gannets are injured by fishing nets boats, oil slicks and other human activities. These animals are brought to the aquarium's marine life rehabilitation centre where they are treated and eventually released back into the sea.

Other features at the aquarium include a rare display of Cape Pigmy Clawed Lobsters, and the newly-built shark tank.

Seal Shows and Penguin Feeding take place daily at 11h30 and 15h30.
Fish Feeding takes place twice daily at 10h30 and 15h00
