The Midlands Meander Creative Festival features numerous informative creative
lessons and workshops about music, cheese production and herb cultivation, as
well as culinary art, leather and woodwork, jewellery design and various aspects
of fine art which include drawing, oils, watercolours and sculpture.
The Midlands Meander was established in the 1970's by a group of craft makers
living in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, with the intention of encouraging visitors
to the area to visit their studios and shops, and purchase their wares.
Each year more and more visitors are drawn to the area by its laid back appeal,
so the locals thought to establish a festival whereby visitors could experience
first hand the various processes involved in the production of the crafts, and
hopefully learn a few new skills. And so the annual Midlands Meander Creative
Festival was born.
After more than twenty years the festival is still going strong. The popular
event is held at a number of venues situated along the scenic Midlands Meander
route. Festival goers are provided with the opportunity to view a number of
interactive courses and displays, 34 in total, where the presenters usually
entice them into joining in.
