The Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary is situated just 20 km from Durban, and serves as an ideal day destination for the entire family. The
sanctuary has become a popular tourist attraction, and consists of a beautiful
4.5 hectare stretch of land, which surrounds a lovely pond flanked by green
manicured lawns and gardens on one side, and a lush riverine forest on the
other.
The Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary boasts a total species list of 150, which can be
viewed from any of the three hides on the property. A fascinating and almost
effortless half hour self guided trail directs visitors through the scenic
forest which teems with an impressive variety of bird life. Visitors are
provided with an opportunity of sighting an impressive variety of bird species
in the sanctuary which include Spurwing Geese, Greenback Heron, White Faced
Duck, Giant Kingfisher and Hamerkop.
The Amanzimtoti Bird Sanctuary also features a tea garden which overlooks the
pond, and serves light meals and refreshments.
