Cape Mounted Rifles Monument

In the mid 1800's the small town of Kokstad , situated in the East Griqua region, was a hotspot for cattle runstling and gun running until order was restored in 1874 by the Cape Mounted Riflemen which consisted mostly of Scotsmen. As a token of appreciation for their assistance, the town decided to erect a monument in their honour. The Cape Mounted Rifles Monument is situated close to the town hall, in front of the library on Main street in Kokstad, and consists of a tall column, surrounded by four lions peering upwards.
