Mpumalanga Fashion Week

2009 will see the first edition of the somewhat anticipated Mpumalanga Fashion week, which will be held in White River from 1st to 6th September at Casterbridge Farm shopping centre, which was originally built as a mango plantation. The event was the concept of founder and director Simphiwe Mtetwa, who has been involved in the local fashion industry for some time, as well as launching his own label Simy C Fashion in 2003, and establishing the very well known conference & Events company Mbokodo Group in 2005.

The first annual Mpumalanga Fashion Week intends to focus its attention on the mastering of design trends, style crafts and splendour which seperates Mpumalanga from the other eight provinces, while highlighting the three cultures which dominate the region, namely Afrikaans, Swazi and Shangaan, and providing a valuable platform for local talent to showcase their work. Other objectives of Mpumalanga Fashion Week include the creation of employment on a provincial scale, promotion of the province, the identification of the local fashion signature, the creation of a fashion design and arts and crafts academy, as well as promoting tourism and the upcoming 2010 Soccer World Cup.
