The Chocolate Warehouse World of Chocolate is situated in East London's Park
Street, near the zoo, and is a chocolate lover's delight. The Eastern Cape has a
rich history in chocolate and sweet manufacturing, and houses the only factories
of well-known companies Nestle and Cadburys in South Africa. The history of both
Cadbury and Nestlé in the Eastern Cape province dates back to the early 1900's
when they first established their factories here. The South African chocolate
market is estimated to be valued at more than three billion rand, and this
figure is increasing at a rate of about three percent per annum.
Chocolate Warehouse World of Chocolate serves as a unique and educational
tourist attraction not worth missing out on. Entrance to the warehouse is free
of charge, and visitors are provided with the mouth watering opportunity to view
the gallery on the premises, which displays a number of various educational
murals which shed light on the chocolate making process. Also located in the
gallery, visitors will find a massive mosaic Portrait of Madiba, made of over
seventeen thousand sweets.
Adding more interest to the venue, is the fact that visitors to The Chocolate
Warehouse World of Chocolate can take a peek at the inner working of the
factory, from a large window. Alternatively one can view products such as
chocolate peanuts, honeycomb and Chocolate Biscuits being manufactured on closed
curcuit T.V. screens. School visits to the facility are allowed the opportunity
