The Paul Sauer Bridge in the Eastern Cape, spans the impressive Storms River, and was designed by Italian architect Riccardo Morandi, and constructed in 1954. The bridge, often mis-named the Storms River Bridge, was completed in 1958, to form a major roadlink of the N2 highway between George and Port Elizabeth.

The Paul Sauer Bridge is one of four bridges constructed across the deep gorges of the Tsitsikamma, and passes over the river at a height of about 120m. The design of an arch bridge, allows it to transfer the weight of the bridge downwards along the arch to the abutments where, where in the case of the Paul Sauer Bridge, the arch meets the walls of the gorge. The magnificent reinforced concrete arch-bridge over the Storms River, is a short distance under 200m in length, and the bridge's arch span is 100m. The Paul Sauer Bridge which spans the Storms River Gorge has often been hailed as an excellent example of architectural and engineering skill.

Attractions in the area which surrounds the bridge includes gorge abseiling, down an 80m cliff face into the gorge beneath the bridge, adrenaline pumping blackwater tubing in the Storms River, or a 22km long mountain bike trail leading visitors through the scenic forests and plantations of the region down to the mouth of the Storms River. Unfortunately for those seeking a more intense thrill, bungy jumping is not an activity undertaken at the Paul Sauer Bridge, however the Bloukraans Bridge, which is the world's highest commercial bungy jump, is located only a short distance away.
