The town of Newcastle in KwaZulu Natal, is very well situated on various
tourist routes and could be utilised as a stopover point or holiday destination
for enthusiastic birdwatchers. It offers a full range of top-class accommodation
establishments of which several have been specifically adapted to accommodate
birdwatchers. The town gives easy access through a whole range of circle routes
to top birding destinations at Memel, Chelmsford Dam, Dundee, Biggarsberg,
Utrecht and Wakkerstroom.
The Newcastle Sewerage Works is rapidly becoming known for it’s water birds, and
