The Dragon Peaks Dam in the KwaZulu Natal Drakensberg is home to the annual
Estcourt Polar Bear Swim. The event is staged to raise funds for
the Estcourt SPCA, and requires participants brave the frigid waters of the
Dragon Peaks Dam, swimming from the shore to the Boma on "Bunny" Island.
Swimmers have a choice of either a 100 m route, or for the less
enthusiastic a shorter 25 m course. No wetsuits are allowed.
Certificates will be awarded to all finishers, and a number of prizes will be up
for grabs on the day.
The next edition of the event is scheduled to take place on
25 June, 2011.
Proceeds from entries will be donated to the Estcourt SPCA.
Spectators are welcome, and encouraged to bring along some Tinned Pet Food, old
blankets, etc.
