The uShaka Marine World Body Art Competition takes place every September in
Durban's Beachfront attracting tattoo artists and body artists from around the
country to show off there creations.
The Body Art Competition usually features a theme. For example, the
theme of the 2009 edition is Dangerous Monsters, with a variety of interesting
creature exhibitions featuring snakes, frogs, scorpions and spiders. In 2008 the
event's theme was "...and it came out of the ocean...". This competition ran
simultaneously with International Marine Week, resulting in a number of
interesting and unique creations surfacing.
Event organisers hope to provide an opportunity for both artists and students
alike, to showcase their talents, and compete for a first prize of R5000. Second
and third place will each win R1000 and R500 respectively. Artists entering are
required to complete an entry form which can be obtained from the local press,
or get one from uShaka Marine World's Management. Thy must then hand in an
A4 sized storyboard which illustrates their ideas using a medium of their choice
and an eighty word concept explanation.
Entries need to be submitted by a week before the competition, after which a
field of 20 finalists will be selected to showcase their talents during the
final event.
The uShaka Marine World Body Art Competition is sure to provide a lot of
family entertainment, and will also feature a variety of prizes up for grabs.
