Hans Merensky Nature Reserve

Proclaimed a nature reserve in 1953, the Hans Merensky Nature Reserve has played an important role as a breeding area for sable and giraffe which have helped stock other reserves in the province.

To the north of the reserve lies the Letaba River where crocodile may be found basking in the sun, while hippo relax in the quiet pools. The keen eye may also spot the giant water monitor on it's banks.

A mixture of grasslands, wetlands, and woodlands provides an ideal habitat for hundreds of interesting bird species, including the White-breasted Cuckoo shrike.
