The Doorndraai Dam is surrounded by grassland, bushveld and woodland that provide an ideal habitat for a wide variety of birds and mammals.

Anglers can find various fish in the dam including bass carp and yellowfish. Permits for boating are available at the reserve.

A 14 km road runs along the eastern shore of the dam, where a variety of game can be seen.
