Adjacent to the Mozambique border in the northern corner of Maputoland lies a hot and humid marshy flood plain that is home to hundreds of bird species, particularly aquatic birds such as heron, stork, duck, and sandpiper.
The Nyanithi Pan and the Banzi Pan are home to many hippo and crocodile and play a vital role in the ecology of the area. Surrounding the pans are fever trees and sycamore figs, that provide an ideal resting perch for the falcons, owls, and fisheagles and other birds of prey that keep a vigilant eye over the quiet waters below.
