The Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park (a.k.a. iSimangaliso Wetland Park) was inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1999, which ensures that this incredibly rich ecosystem of coral reefs, coastal dunes, lake systems, and papyrus wetlands shall be protected for future generations.

The St. Lucia Estuary is the largest estuarine system in Africa, home to over 500 species of birds, including large breeding colonies of various waterfowl such as pelicans, storks, herons and terns.

Every summer, leatherback and loggerback turtles journey to these shores to lay their eggs in the sand. This amazing event can be witnessed by taking a guided night tour during these times.

The town of St. Lucia is essentially one giant bait and tackle shop, where thousands of fisherman from around the world converge in search of catching a variety of deep sea fish.
