Bed & Breakfast Accommodation
in Fraserburg, Hantam Karoo & Upper Karoo,
Northern Cape, South Africa
Guests are welcomed by one of our friendly team members. They will also
attend to your every need.
Visiting the Kliphuis is like taking a step back in time. The Kliphuis was built
in the 1850's. All the Oregon pine wood trimmings have been restored to their
former glory. Transforming this beauty took owner Herman le Roux about 4 years.
It now has 6 en-suite bedrooms.
Three of these rooms have a separate bathroom en-suite and three rooms have
their bathrooms skilfully fitted within the room. Two of the bathrooms have a
bath and shower and the other four just a shower, toilet and basin. The interior
was done with vintage furniture bought from local "veilings". All the linen used
is Hotel Collection 100% Cotton percale. The duvet inners are 100% down. Each
room has it's own unique feel and has a beverage table with coffee, tea, rusks
and fruit. All rooms will be fitted with TV's by end January 2010. DSTV channels
will also be available.
Five rooms have double beds and the other room has two single beds.
- Two single beds with en-suite shower, toilet and basin
- One double bed, one single and en-suite shower, toilet, basin
- One double bed, with FULL bathroom in room. (Disabled friendly)

- One double bed with bathroom in room.

The Kliphuis is situated in Fraserburg, 110km north from Sutherland via a good dirt road. From Cape Town on the N1 you
turn left at Leeu Gamka. (114km) Or from Gauteng right at Leeu Gamka.
Fraserburg is mostly a farming community. The town almost closes down at
lunchtime and then at 5pm. On Saturdays at noon it becomes almost a ghost town.
The silence at night is almost deafening. Although the town is not known for
stargazing, you are able to view the stars just as wonderfully here. Dusk and
dawn in the Fraserburg makes you want to come back for more time after time. At
the Kliphuis there is "sunset" deck from where you can watch this.
Our local museum is a hidden treasure with africana and different memorabilia
from days gone by. At the Museum one can also arrange for a guided tour to the
Paleo Surface, home to dinosaur footprints. You can take a leisurely stroll
through town and see the Peperbus, unique to Fraserburg. This building was used
as a post office, library and municipality. In the tower of the Peperbus is a
working slave bell. You can also see the barracks and ammunition store house
from the Anglo Boer war.
Dinner and breakfast is served in the dining room or back "stoep" on the same
premises. We specialize in lamb dishes as well as wood fired pizza, which we do
by prior arrangement.
