Knowsley Country Cottage offers comfortable accommodation and is situated on a stock farm in the scenic Winterberg Nature Conservancy of the Eastern Cape. The area is bounded by the Winterberg Mountains in the South and Mary and Martha (Tarka's landmarks) in the North.
The Cottage is situated in a beautiful garden surrounded by trees and boasts a full size championship bowling green, four tennis courts and a swimming pool.
The climate is extremely healthy with crisp, cool winters with possibilities of snow and sunny, warm to hot summers. The air is clean and pure, all the way from the flats (900m), right through to the top of the beautiful surrounding mountain ranges with their distinctive sheer dolerite krantzes. These include the magnificent Winterberg Mountain Range (2371m) with its rolling grasslands.
Activities:
- Trout fishing: Knowsley Country Cottage is centrally situated and offers a variety of six dams situated in the pristine Winterberg Mountain Range offering excellent fly-fishing. Ventnor, Theadon, Fair Field and Thrift are equi-distant (30 minutes). En route to Thrift is Highland Home Dam (15 minutes) and the Fair View Big Dam (5 minutes).
- Enjoy experiencing everyday farm life, watching sheep-dogs work sheep, goats and cattle, hay making. Experience the beauty of watching new born lambs and calfs.
- Bowls: Enjoy a game of bowls on a full size championship bowling green.
- Tennis: Four all weather tennis courts.
- Hikes & trails: Many trails, long and short, in the magnificent mountain country. Winterberg Trail, Toorberg Trail, climb Martha and Mary, Fenella Falls.
- Hunting in season: Mountain reedbuck, blesbuck and springbok. Guinea Fowl and grey wing partridge.
- Rock art viewing: Rock art sites will complete your Winterberg experience.
- Swimming: Swimming pool to relax and enjoy.
- Pottery Studio & Fabric Painting: Enjoy the facilities of a pottery studio or bring out your creativity with fabric painting
- Tsolwana Game Reserve: This reserve offers some of the best game viewing opportunities in the Eastern Cape. If you enjoy the outdoors then this is the reserve to visit, just 40 minutes drive from Knowsley Country Cottage. Walking trails, game viewing, horse riding, mountain trails, rock art sites and more will complete your African experience.
- Mountain Zebra National Park: 75 minutes drive one can have a lovely day in the zebra park.
- Commando Drift Nature Reserve: 40 minutes drive, animals, flowers, birds, fish, walking trails and canoeing.
- Historical sites: Boer and Border War sites.
- Enjoy visiting a Taxidermy Business by appointment.
- Tarkastad, 20 minutes drive from Knowsley Cottage hast most commercial services: Banking, motor car repairs, bakery, pharmacist, clothing stores, green grocer, doctor, hospital, etc.
