KOFFYLAAGTE GAME LODGE
Private Game Reserve Accommodation
in Port Elizabeth, Western Region,
Eastern Cape, South Africa
Koffylaagte Game Lodge & Safari Tents
Koffylaagte Game Lodge & Tented Camp, literally translated means “Coffee
Hollow”, owes its name to its colourful history as the resting place of the
early settler traders. This TGCSA 4 star graded pristine reserve, situated in
the Karoo Heartland, roughly 130km from Port Elizabeth, is dedicated to wildlife
management and breeding programmes, and has been stripped of all remnants
related to its early farming days. The area has been converted back to its
magnificent fauna and flora, becoming a place to rest your mind, body and soul,
just as in the days of the early settlers.
With an abundance of wild life, including white rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra,
some 22 species of South African antelopes as well as other mammals such as
warthog, bush pig, mongoose, fox, porcupine, jackal, meerkat and primates such
as baboon and vervet monkey, a large variety of birds, including the bird of
preys such as the majestic black eagle and a magnificent Karoo flora resembling
a natural succulent garden with aloes, euphorbia, spekboom, as well as the
protected Cycad and Elephant’s Foot, Koffylaagte presents a rich and rewarding
visual feast in its 1800 hectare reserve.
Accommodation:
The choice of accommodation, as well as the décor that tastefully reflects
its rich Karoo background, have combined to create a unique tranquil oasis.
Accommodation consists of a total of 12 bedrooms, split amongst the Nyala Valley
Safari Tents, the original Hunters Lodge, and the historic Farmhouse. Guests may
also choose between full board or self-catering service, or even a combination
of both.
The luxuriously appointed en-suite Nyala Valley Safari Tents overlook the
surrounding Nyala Valley and have private wooden viewing decks, offering
uninterrupted views of the valley below. Although the Safari Tents are only 150m
from the main Lodge, they blend seamlessly into the surrounding vegetation,
creating a sense of absolute privacy and tranquility.
The original Hunters Lodge comprises 3 upmarket, en-suite bedrooms with
views of the lodge gardens, boma and the rock pool. The lodge also features an
indoor barbeque area and TV Lounge, a bar, dining area for 10, and pool table
for evening entertainment.
The original Farmhouse, dating back to the late 1800’s, with its
wraparound verandah and comfortable farm style inspired décor, has been divided
into two self-catering units. Each unit offers 2 bedrooms (1 with double and 1
with 2 single beds), living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen.
The full board guests dine in the hunting lodge, the lodge veranda or the boma.
Activities:
The two 12-seater open Land Rovers provide uninterrupted views of the wildlife
on day- or night game drives. Guided quad bike and horseback trails ensure fun
for the entire family. Alternatively, trails can be followed on foot for a more
leisurely option.
The sauna and swimming pool are the popular venues for relaxing after a busy day
in the veld, as is the fully licensed bar, pool table and darts’ board in the
hunting lodge during the evenings.
Showcasing some of the lesser known "off the beaten track" destinations in and
around the Karoo Heartland and Sunshine Coast, Heritage Trails (Eastern Cape),
using Koffylaagte Game Lodge as a base, offers a combination of programs ranging
from Guided Tours to Self-drive Programs, Beach & Bush Escapes, and Dirt & Dust
Adventures.
If you looking for a fine mix of adventure, quality service, luxury
accommodation, fair price and a chance to be with unspoiled nature, look no
further.
