Libertas Guest Farm offers self-catering accommodation on a working dairy
farm in the idyllic lakes area in the heart of the Garden Route. The newly
renovated farmhouse sleeps a total of 12 and offers an ideal getaway for larger
families or friends wishing to escape the bustle of every-day life and to relax
in the countryside. The natural beauty of the area as well as the many tourist
attractions will ensure a memorable stay.
Libertas is located close enough to all the best tourist attractions the area
has to offer. We are conveniently located 14km from the town of Sedgefield &
15km from Wilderness village.
Accommodation:
The farmhouse is a lovingly restored old farmstead with the most wonderful
original yellow wood beams.
The farmhouse provides visitors with the following accommodation:
- 3 Bedrooms: 2 with Queen size beds and the 3rd with 2 single beds
- Kids loft area with 4 x single beds (+ 2 mattresses available)
- 2 Bathrooms: 1 with toilet, basin, shower and bath (with a lovely view
of the garden area). 1 with toilet, basin and shower only
- Outside shower (hot & cold water)
- Lounge
- Kitchen with open plan dining area that leads onto a stoep, Gas stove
with electric oven, Fridge & freezer, Microwave
- Stoep area with a fireplace / braai facility (lovely views of the
Outeniqua mountains)
- Boma fireplace underneath a huge old oak tree
- Huge play area for kids
- Hammock and swing from the old gum trees next to the house
All linen and towels are provided.
Family-friendly accommodation:
Open-plan loft area with 4 single beds, 2 loose mattresses, bean bags, loose
carpet play area, TV with DVD player (only for those rainy days - no sitting
around in the house on a nice sunny day!).
Huge open space around the house allowing for free-range kids to enjoy the fresh
farm air and to introduce themselves to the local calves and cows.
Hammock & swings hanging from old Blue Gum trees.
Boma braai area under the huge oak for those lazy late-afternoon family braais
and for story telling around the fire.
Freshwater fishing in the dams on the farm.
Bring the whole family's bicycles - safe area around the farmhouse for smaller
kids and numerous challenging MTB cycling routes for the more serious riders in
the family.
Activities:
The number of tourist attractions in the area will keep you busy for days on
end.
On the farm and in the immediate vicinity is a number of must-do activities:
- Hiking
There are several day hikes in the area. The closest being the Brown-hooded
Kingfisher trail which starts about 4km from Libertas and takes about 2hours
to complete. It leads you up the valley along the Duiwe River and to a
waterfall with a rock pool for swimming. Plenty of forest birds can be seen
along the way.
- Fishing
Saltwater and freshwater fishing (in the farm dams)
- Bird-watching
The Malachite bird hide is nestled amongst the reeds along the Langvlei. The
number of birds you will be able to view from this hide will excite any keen
twitcher.
- Mountain-biking
Hoekwil is mountainbike country. The number of route options will overwhelm
any keen mountainbiker and is guaranteed not to disappoint. The farm owners
are keen mountainbikers themselves and will be able to provide you with
countless routes.
The Kingfisher MTB race is a local race presented by the Hoekwil Primary
School. It is an established MTB race and rated as one of the best in the
Western Cape. It is usually held during March/April every year. Watch out
for the date of this adventurous and fun-filled event.
