The owners of this property are passionate about making a difference in saving
the environment that we live in. This way of thinking inspired us to grow, plant
and sell only indigenous plants, and to do things as organic as we possibly can.
We started planting hundreds of indigenous trees and shrubs in 2008 and will
continue doing so all the time. A large portion of what used to be agricultural
land will eventually be rehabilitated to an indigenous bush that will be home to
many species of birds, insects and other small animals. From there the name
Liedjiesbos (happy songs coming from inside the bush). The call of nature will
be heard again! The rest of the land is used for growing asparagus, fruit,
vegetables, herbs and indigenous plants for sale to the public.
The buildings on the property used to be unsightly barns that was turned into
something more functional for our needs and are now beautiful architectural
structures that blends well into the landscape. The buildings where designed to
use as little energy as possible for heating and cooling of the interiors and
most of the original building materials where re-used or recycled. Energy saving
devices and solar geysers where also installed to reduce our carbon footprint.
The interior of the main building reflects the owners love for art, antiques and
travel. The décor is a blend of old and new, African, Egyptian, Chinese,
Vietnamese and more. All this creates an interesting environment with a chic,
yet well lived in, and comfortable feel.
Come unwind, lounge in the sun and experience true Free State hospitality.
