The 71-bed four star rated Mongena Game Lodge is situated in the malaria-free
north-western section of the Dinokeng Game Reserve - a convenient 30 minutes
drive, 50 km north of Pretoria. It is accessible by tarred main road or tarred
private airstrip.
The Lodge is named after the Boekenhout tree which is indigenous to the area.
The resident Nyala herd living in the gardens at the main lodge has become a
trade mark for Mongena and is cherished by young and old. A state-of-the art
conference centre and romantic chapel completes the unique offerings at the main
camp.
The lodge has 28 tastefully furnished air-conditioned chalets/rooms providing
single, double/twin or family accommodation all with private bathrooms
comprising of bath and or/shower. All chalets are positioned amongst rolling
lawns and indigenous landscaping in close proximity to the restaurant, pool and
bar area.. Each unit has coffee/tea making facilities as well as satellite TV
programmes. The lodge can accommodate a total of 71 guests in shared
accommodation.
The lodge also boasts a wheel-chair friendly twin room with a paraplegic
bathroom facility. All entrances to the facilities at Mongena are wheelchair
friendly. Babycots and baby feeding chairs are readily available for families
with small children. The romantic honeymoon suite overlooking a dam is a must
for prospective new and old honeymooners alike.
The gourmet chefs at Mongena go out of their way to serve exquisite cuisine for
every occasion; be it a special birthday party, wedding, anniversary, romantic
bush picnic or the regular relaxed Sunday lunch in the lapa. The flavourful
meals at the lodge will cause you to leave with great reluctance at the end of
your stay!
Wildlife is high on the agenda at Mongena. Early morning and late afternoon game
drives with qualified rangers are taking you to the best rhino sightings
imaginable. Experience the wonderful world of nocturnal animals on the regular
night drives. The farm boasts plentiful game like giraffe, zebra, kudu, impala,
tsessebe as well as splendid rhino viewing in the typical African bush.
The lodge prides itself with a 20 ha scenic dam where spectacular African
sunsets can be viewed from the comfort of a luxury boat amongst hippos,
crocodiles and prolific birdlife. Wetlands surrounding the lake produce a
variety of birdlife that even veteran bird watchers are pleasantly surprised to
observe. The boathouse boma venue facility next to the lake is ideal for
teambuilding activities and private functions.
