NOLANGENI HOTEL
Hotel/ Boutique Hotel Accommodation
in Kokstad, Drakensberg & Surroundings,
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Nolangeni Hotel is newly refurbished and is currently the only hotel situated
in the historic town of Kokstad, the ideal stop over for company representatives
traveling in the area. Or the perfect relaxed atmosphere for a sundowner on the
courtyard terrace with friends and family after a hard days work. Kokstad is a
town in the Sisonke District of KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. Kokstad is
named after the Griqua chief Adam Kok III who settled here in 1863. Stad is the
Afrikaans word for city. Kokstad is built on the outer slopes of the Drakensberg
and is 1,302 m above the sea level. Behind it Mount Currie rises to a height of
2,224 m. Kokstad is a centre for cheese and other dairy products. This South
western tip of KwaZulu-Natal is the Southern Gateway to the entire KwaZulu-Natal
Midlands and Eastern Cape including The Wild Coast.
Cradled by the mighty Drakensberg, the Nungi and Ingeli Mountains are
characterized by numerous rivers and streams, wide open spaces and unspoilt
vleis, covering an area of 4000 square kilometers. The diverse and interesting
fauna, flora and geographical features of the region and the sweeping panoramic
views, make this area the uspoilt jewel of the province. It is well worth the
time needed to explore its many facets. The Kokstad Museum traces the story of
Adam Kok and his followers and the eventual annexation by the Cape Colony. There
is also a display of the early economic history of Kokstad and medical
equipment.
