Olifantskop Lodge is set in 600 hectares of pristine East Cape bushveld in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa,
Paterson on the N10.
The lodge is in a beautiful indigenous garden setting and offers excellent bird watching. It forms the perfect overnight and departure point when visiting this Malaria Free area. Accommodation consists of 2 double en-suite bedrooms and 1 en-suite family bedroom with a view of the
Shamwari Game Reserve while overlooking the valley below.
An English breakfast is served in the morning and on request a traditional evening braai can be enjoyed around the fire. After breakfast be ready to explore one or more of the game reserves listed below:
The Addo National Park boasts some 400 elephants, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, Lion, hynea and many different species of antelope. The elephant viewing at Addo is rated as the best in the world. The dense thicket is ideal elephant country and can support four times the density of elephants than the
Kruger National Park. Visitors have the option of self drive excursions into the park or they can make use of the guided tours that are on offer.
Schotia Safaris is a private game reserve, guests are taken as close as possible to get the best viewing of rhino, hippo, giraffe and the Lion. They offer a four hour guided game drive in an open Land Rover with a short refreshments and toilet break at the halfway point. A delicious dinner, which is prepared over an open fire, is served in their Lapa. A short, spotlit night drive providing the possibility of nocturnal animals completes your experience as you return to the reception area.
Bushman Sands - Alicedale
Game viewing:
Three hour game viewing through the Bushman Sands Reserve takes place daily by qualified rangers. Visitors are introduced to true African big game from open Land Rovers. Tea and coffee is served on morning drives.
Golf Course:
The Bushman Sands Golf course has been designed by the South African golfing legend, Gary Player. The course follows the banks of the New Years and Bushmans Rivers, resembling the game's earliest "links" courses in Scotland with undulating fairways and pot bunkers. Unique features include playing the first stroke over the active railway line, a double green (1600sq.m) shared by the 2nd and 5th holes, crossing the Bushman's River and the New Year's River on various holes and finishing with the final drive over a small cemetery in the centre of the fairway. A challenging, yet friendly course is to be enjoyed by all golfers. Facilities include a halfway house, pro-shop, bar overlooking the 18th green and gents and ladies locker rooms each with showers and a steam room.
Boat Cruises:
The 200ha New Years Dam in the Bushman Sands Reserve provides the ideal opportunity to view big game at the waters edge from the twin hull, double-decker "Imvubu" (Xhosa for Hippo).
The "Imvubu" accommodates a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 50 guests and is fully equipped with a bar and toilet facilities.
Amakhala Game Reserve:
Day trip safaris commence in the early afternoon with a game drive, guided by experienced rangers in open Land Rovers thereafter a sunset cruise on the Bushman's River, with South African cheeses and wines served. A four-course dinner is served in a specially designed bush "lapa". The evening concludes with an exciting night drive back to the vehicles.
