Game Reserve and Bush Lodge
Bush Lodges may have a variation of game on or around the premises - small game such as warthog, jackal, mongooses, cerval and bird life will generally frequent these properties.
Game Reserves on the other hand will definitely have large game such as giraffe, zebra, antelope and probably at least two of the Big Five.
Self Catering Apartment, Flatlet
Apartments or flats generally form part of an apartment block/ block of flats. They can also be upstairs OR downstairs units of a free-standing, double-storey structure (as long as both floors have fully equipped kitchens).
Flatlets will generally be garden units attached to a private house.
Self Catering House, Cottage, Chalet
Houses and cottages - these units are totally free-standing and independent of any other structures, each with its own roof. You can walk entirely around these units without encountering a part of a guest house, private dwelling, any other units or communal facility structures. Chalets may be semi-detached units and are generally associated with holiday resorts.
Free-standing double-storey houses which have two kitchens and are sometimes rented out to two different parties/ families simultaneously, will NOT qualify under this category - They should be registered under "Apartments".
Holiday Resort
Must have typical indoor and outdoor activities such as Tennis courts, horse riding, trampolines, communal games area for children, bar, swimming pool etc.
Bed & Breakfast
Must have indoor dining area and lounge area (communal or in guest suites). Rates should include breakfast.
Bed and Breakfast is a term generally used in South Africa and comprises of between one and seven guest rooms. However, in Europe a similar comparison may be referred to as a Guest House.
Guest House
- Guest houses will have a minimum of 3 en-suite bedrooms - If not en-suite, then each room should have exclusive use of a bathroom facility.
- Guest houses must have separate living areas for guests and manager / host.
- Breakfast to be provided by the property and included in the rates - Other meals may be requested by guests (this is a general, but not a compulsory requirement).
- Communal dining and lounge facilities to be provided exclusively for guest use only.
- Rooms to be serviced daily, and included in the tariff.
