PURPLE HERON GUEST HOUSE
Bed & Breakfast/ Guest House Accommodation
in Sedgefield, Garden Route,
Western Cape, South Africa
Purple Heron Guest House,Sedgefield getaway, is
situated right on the Swartvlei River on The Island. Open since 2006, it has
become a popular destination for guests from near and far, who are always
pleasantly surprised to find out what Sedgefield has been hiding, and often come
back for more.
Being in the quiet part of the village it is ideal for the busy tourist who
wants to relax but be able to visit the nearby attractions of Oudtshoorn,
Plettenberg Bay. Family groups enjoy the safe swimming in
our river, the fishing, canoeing, cycling and braaing. Honeymooners have the
romance of their own secluded suite, while the businessman has the privacy to
work or relax and entertain associates in-house. Motorcyclists base themselves
here for tours through the numerous local passes, and as a gateway to the
Eastern Cape, Baviaanskloof, Meiringspoort and Price Albert. Beaches are nearby,
golf, bowls and tennis are available, and the whole spectrum of activities from
paragliding to bird watching is right on the doorstep. The Sedgefield climate is
milder than that of Cape Town, and is a delight for those fleeing the rainy
winters and windy summers.
Our accommodation ranges from the Coucal and Fish Eagle Suites with king size
beds, private balconies and lounges, to the Spoonbill and Dabchick Rooms (queen
sized with balconies) and our Egret Room downstairs (twin beds) which is
designed and equipped to be wheelchair friendly. Each room has its own mini bar,
tv, and full ensuite bathroom with infrared heater for winter.
Upstairs rooms have views of either the Swartvlei or the mountains, and all
visitors have full use of the Lounge, Pub, Patio and Garden. Wireless Internet
connectivity is provided, and there is a computer for public use should you have
left yours at home. DSTV is available too.
Our breakfasts are legendary, and cooked to order by your hostess using the best
produce sourced locally from the Farmers Market and small businesses in the
area. Although most visitors dine in the village in the evenings we do have
braai facilities in the garden or at the river's edge, and you are welcome to
use the patio or dining room facilities for take aways.
George Airport is only 35 km away for those who want to fly in, and the Purple
Heron will arrange your airport transfer or car hire if necessary. Travel from
Cape Town or Port Elisabeth is an easy drive on good roads, and the House is
signposted from the N2. We also cater for those with special diets, can suggest
and book restaurants and activities, or just provide a quiet space away from
everything. We look forward to your call.
