Fern Hill Hotel Training College Conference Centre is a landmark in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands. It has a reputation as one of the leading privately owned hotels in South Africa. Situated just off the N3 highway and opposite the
Midmar Dam and Nature Reserve, it enjoys a significant history. What started off as a small hotel, with only six bedrooms, a small bar, restaurant and conference room, has developed to far greater proportions. Today it boasts twenty seven bedrooms, all en-suite and a host of public rooms. It has three conference rooms, two restaurants complimented by two bars for efficient service to customers in both restaurants.
The main Snooty Fox restaurant seats up to 60 diners. Breakfast, lunch and candlelit dinners are served. Ŕ la carte, carvery and pub menus are served in the Snooty Fox restaurant. The food is 5 star but very reasonably priced.
For special occasions such as Mothers’ day, Fathers’ day, Valentine’s day and Christmas day Fern Hill offers a sumptuous menu with an eclectic array of mouthwatering starter including five roasts, seasonal vegetables and a kaleidoscope of delicious home made desserts. Booking well in advance is essential. When the Snooty Fox restaurant is fully booked diners are offered a table in the Cobwebs pub restaurant or one of the other venues in the hotel.
The Cobwebs restaurant leads out to a beer garden with umbrellas for guests who prefer to eat outside. Cobwebs has seating for 80 people and guests are usually served with the “pub menu”.
Braais are available on request by group bookings and are cooked in the beer garden but guests may choose to eat inside or outside.
Cobwebs restaurant is available for year-end functions, product launches, awards evenings, theme evenings, birthdays and other similar functions unlike the Snooty Fox restaurant which is reserved for hotel guests and casual diners. Cobwebs boasts a dance floor and mirror ball if required for private functions. Furniture can be removed on request to create space for theme evenings. Karioke and live bands can be organized on request. Live music is played on Thursday evenings and drinks are sold at special prices which attracts a large crowd.
All restaurants and public areas at Fern Hill are air conditioned for comfort in the summer and roaring fires are a feature in the winter.
Fern Hill Hotel Training College has achieved several prestigious awards including: Community-based Service Excellence Award on 15 March 2006, the AA Team Award, AA Country Hotel Accommodation Award. Currently Fern Hill is a semi-finalist in the AA Highly Recommended Country Commercial Hotel competition for 2006.
