Welcome to The Old Hatchery
You have chosen to come to the most beautiful part of the Drakensberg in KZN.
There is nothing quite like Southern Berg hospitality. Our little haven is just
10km from Underberg nestled amongst some hills overlooking rolling farmlands and
the Mzimkulu River on the Drakensberg Gardens Road.
The magnificent thatched restaurant with panoramic views across the dam and
across to the farmlands in the distance is situated just next to the waterfall
that flows into our trout dam. We serve breakfasts, lunches and dinners on
bookings only. Our pub is licensed and we are able to host intimate weddings,
special occasions and corporate functions. The restaurant can seat between 25 -
30 people and for more informal settings we can host about 50 people. We also,
very conveniently, have enough accommodation on the property to house about 26
people.
The Restaurant also houses an art gallery showcasing photography and ceramics of
two local artists, Lawrence and Catherine Brennon, as well as a small selection
from other artists.
Our local chef, Themba, is well-trained in Italian cuisine and his food will
tantalize your taste buds whilst you sit back and enjoy the natural surroundings
of the countryside. By day the children can hop in the canoe and paddle or fish
in the dam and by night you can sit around the cozy fireplace to share an
evening with friends, new and old.
