The restaurant and kitchen at THE GORGE Private Game Lodge & Spa is headed up
by acclaimed head chef, Deon Kemp alias the cane chef. After graduating from the
Christina Martin School of Food and Wine, Deon set his goals on nothing less
than five star cuisines in sought after establishments.
Deon embarked on his culinary journey at AQUA, a Sibaya Casino restaurant
renowned for their seafood. At Sun International's ZIMBALI LODGE he gained
experience in all areas of the kitchen. When the international bug bit he
ventured to one of the top hotels of the world, NORTH ISLAND, Seychelles. They
follow a no menu approach which ensures unique dining on the island. On his
return to South Africa he was appointed sous chef at LYNTON HALL and HOTEL IZULU
respectively, both five star establishments.
Deon thrives on continually experimenting with new dishes and his food
presentation is best described as extraordinary works of art. He incorporates
flavours from all around the world, creating a memorable dining experience with
an African Twist.
Deon insists in having his own organic veggie & herb garden where he can pick
fresh cuttings daily. Deon prouds himself in only preparing food that is
organic, free range and hormone free.
Deon enjoys cooking in front of the guests and interacts regularly with them
during the sitting and is continually inspired by feedback he gets from guests.
