Set in breathtaking surroundings on a large wine and fruit farm at the base
of the Waaihoek mountain range between Ceres, off the R43, is the
Rico Suter Estate Wine Farm and - Country House.
We are a family run operation where Rico Suter, together with his sons Carlo
(oenologist) and Bruno (viticulturist), makes very special handmade wines from
grapes grown on the farm. Bruno's wife, Erika, runs the upmarket B&B/SC guest
suite.
Accommodation
This constitutes the entire top floor of the old Mill House and has its own
entrance. With high open-truss ceilings, contemporary design mixed with antiques
and upmarket furnishings and fittings, the apartment consists of one en-suite
bedroom with either an extra length King- or two extra length single mattresses.
The bathroom has a romantic free standing tub large enough for two, as well as a
shower. There is also a fully equipped open-plan kitchenette (It has EVERYTHING
needed to cook: a smart electric frying pan and single hotplate for plugging in
(both hidden away in the cupboard), heavy pots, lovely crockery, cutlery, all
sorts of glasses, a double wash bowl, and a S/S convection microwave and S/S bar
fridge. Obviously the usual kettle, toaster, coffee machine are also present.)
with a dining table, and a large living area with a cosy fireplace, leather
couch and - ottomans. Stunning Nguni skins are scattered throughout. The entire
length of the floor opens onto a private balcony which overlooks Cabernet
Sauvignon vineyards and faces the rugged foothills and cliffs of the Waaihoek
mountain range. You can enjoy this spectacular view from every room, even your
bathroom. Sleeping arrangements for up to four extra individuals can be
organised in the spacious living area. Tea, coffee, milk, sugar and homemade
rusks are provided. Smoking is only permitted outside.
Facilities
Being the only accommodation facility available on the farm, this is the
ultimate getaway. Have the run of this large and beautiful farm to yourself, far
from other tourists. Walk among the many vineyards, fruit orchards, and
grasslands or climb the foothills and slopes among the fynbos; mountain bike or
swim in some of the six mountain stream dams with nothing but 360° mountain
views; take a private tour of the cellar and taste award-winning wines with Rico
Suter himself (by appointment), or get involved with one of the seasonal farm
activities.
This place is the perfect spot for honeymooners and those celebrating
anniversaries. It is, however, also a treat for children. The beautiful garden
is fenced in, and boasts a large climbing frame, sandpit and swing as well as a
ground level trampoline in the shade of ancient oaks. Braai facilities are also
available in the garden. Daypacks and utensils for picnicking are provided in
your apartment.
No DSTV. DVD player in room, and a small DVD library available.
Services
Special packages including candlelight dinners served in your apartment or on
your balcony are available on request, as well as picnic- and braai baskets to
take outdoors. Laundry facilities are also available. The farm is within easy
access to various wine cellars and restaurants in the area, as well as the
surrounding towns of Tulbagh, Ceres, Worcester, and the historic Bainskloof
Pass..
There are 18 hole golf courses both in Worcester and Ceres, only 30km away. Big
5 and other game viewing as well as gliding are also offered in Worcester.
Breakfast
A basket filled with warm home bakes, fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, Swiss muesli, farm preserves and all the ingredients to
make a hot English-style farmer's breakfast are brought to your apartment at
your appointed time. The cooked part of your breakfast is left for you to
prepare in your well-equipped kitchen. You can then enjoy the meal at your
leisure and in privacy. In the case of working, mid-week stays, it is possible
that the hot breakfast is also prepared for you.
