Located in the heart of Herman Charles Bosman's Marico Vally, you'll find Riverbend Guest Farm. It is situated on the scenic Draaifontein Farm and it will be a pleasure for your hosts Stone and Michelle to treat you to this nostalgic, tranquil environment away from daily stress, television and cell phones, reminding you of years gone by.
Riverbend Guest Farm is 28 km from
Groot Marico and approximately 2 and a half hours from Johannesburg.
Riverbend Guest House is self-catering with well appointed rooms which are both spacious and comfortable. The house comes fully equipped and guests need only supply food, beverages and towels. There is no television, radio or cellphone reception.
Our establishment consists of a main house which sleeps 11. For your comfort, there is a bath, shower, basin and 2 toilets. The smaller dwelling sleeps 5 and is also fully equipped with its own kitchen, bathroom (which includes a shower, bath, basin and toilet) and lounge.
Smokers and pets are welcome.
There is a lapa with braai facilities, enough wood is provided for a braai or even just a fire to relax around. More wood is available for sale.
Draaifontein is in excess of 3 000 ha with meandering rivers, majestic mountains and the spectacular Langkloof. Here a variety of bird species can be seen including the Pearl Spotted Owl and Black Eagles which makes it a bird watcher's paradi se. Wildlife roams freely including jackal, brown hyenas, various antelopes and lets not forget the devious monkeys and baboons. The farm is also blessed with stunning flora and apart from the different grass types, there is approximately 80 different types of trees and shrubs.
Depending on your preference, we have trails from 3 - 30 km suitable for hiking, 4x4, quad or mountain biking. The trails take you over river crossings, over mountains or even into Langkloof which is over a hundred meters of pure d rop. Take in the scenery and natures beauty, and be sure to take advantage of the naturally formed rock pools for a revitalising swim while on your route. Go for a leisurely walk, take a picnic or just go for sundowners and watch an unforgettable sunset.
We have been entered into the book "Best Mountain Bike Rides in South Africa" by Jacques Marais and Susanna & Herman Mills. We also host the annual Marico Mountain Bike Classic which normally take place the last weekend of August.
Should all of this not be enough to keep you busy, there is a pool table in the main house, Piet "Sweep" van Niekerk with his hand made whips and Michelle (a qualified beauty therapist) is on hand for various beauty treatments (booking essential). There is also a Buddhist Centre next door where you can go for guided tours of their unusual building methods or yoga classes.
