We are a private game lodge situated at the base of the Sani Pass in the
Southern Drakensberg, overlooking a 260-acre lake. The lake is one of the most
well known Fly Fishing spots in the entire Drakensberg region, with a record
fish of 12 pounds, we know why people keep coming back. We try to promote
catch-and-release, and stock the Lake with between 15 000 and 25 000 fish per
year so as to keep producing the Fly-Fishing experiences that so many people
remember.
We have exclusive Honeymoon Lodges situated on the Lake, with Jacuzzis and "five
star" finishes, they are the ideal honeymoon getaway. Sunsets from your own
"bath with a view" and sunrises from the king size bed will be difficult to
forget. Privacy is paramount and tranquility is a given. Spa treatments on your
deck overlooking the Southern Drakensberg Escarpment watching your partner sip
champagne in the Jacuzzi is a honeymoon moment very hard to beat!
Sani Valley is small and exclusive enough to be able to adapt our offer to your
very own needs and interests. Tell us exactly how you imagine your holiday at
Sani Valley, and we will endeavor to exceed your expectations. So, if you feel
like either relaxing and enjoying the Drakensberg tranquility, being pampered by
our professional staff, going bird watching, going game viewing on horseback,

Fly Fishing
Fisherman, you will enjoy both our main dam and our trophee dam! The main 260 acre lake is well stocked with trout and offers excellent fly-fishing opportunities with brown and rainbow trout ranging from 1 pound to 12 pounds (yes, the record trout fished in the lake is 12 pounds!).
Fishing for trout is a gentleman's sport & we at Sani Valley are strong supporters of catch and release - guests must adhere to our new fishing regulations which will ensure great fishing for all for years to come. Guided trout fishing and hire equipment is available on request. Sani Valley has two smaller dams at anglers disposal, all of which are stocked regularly.
Our trout hatchery produces between 40 000 to 50 000 baby trout, all of which are released into the dams at 2 inches (fry stage). This provides anglers with the opertunity of catching wild trophee trout. Although natural mortality of these fish is very high, the ones that do make it through are truly wild and are an incredible experience to catch.
The tackle shop at reception, will cater for all anglers basic needs as well as tackle for hire.
Boating
Sani Valley is the perfect spot for a sundown cruise, an early morning cruise or a refreshing swim in the afternoon. There are 5 fishing boats available for guests to use (fishing or leisurely cruises). Guests can either opt for a motor for their boat or they can utilise oars. (Boats & motors are an optional extra) . If fishing boats aren't for you, then you can try out one of the Kyac canoes (seats 2). Fisherman are however encouraged to bring their own float tubes or kick boats. This is where most angling success is had.
Guests are more than welcome to bring their own boats and motors so long as the motors are less than 5 hp, so as not to negatively impact on other fisherman
Game Viewing
The Sani Valley conservancy has been stocked with game indigenous to the area. Please be careful when entering this area. A game guide is available to you during your stay and we suggest you take advantage of his knowledge of the mountains and the diverse game that roam the area. (See activity sheets for guide game drives) Although the animals introduced are of a passive nature it must be understood that they are "wild" and can be dangerous. They should be respected as such at all times.
Birding
Sani Valley is visited by many of the endangered species including Crowned and the very rare Wattled Crane. Bald and Sacred Ibis are often seen while the Secretary bird have made their home in the lone tree in the conservation area. Water birds abound. Enjoy your birding experience at Sani Valley!
