in Umtentweni, South Coast,
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa
Situated on the South Coast of KZN and only an hour's drive from Durban, Shady Lane Cottage - in
the picturesque and tranquil
Umtentweni - lies tucked away in an exquisite
tropical garden filled with magnificent indigenous trees and colourful shrubs and flowers. Our
gardens host an impressive variety of wild birds and they are also home to our resident guinea fowl
family.
Shady Lane Cottage consists of an en-suite bedroom, open plan kitchen and TV room which also has a
sleeper couch. Self-catering guests have the use of a two-plate stove, microwave, kettle, crockery,
cutlery, toaster and fridge. Tea and coffee and all linen including towels (excluding beach
towels) are provided. Braai facilities are available on the cottage's private veranda.
Umtentweni has a beautiful beach protected by shark nets, a tidal pool for the less adventurous and
a kiddies' paddling pool, all which are less than two kilometres from our cottage. We also have some
fine restaurants as well take-aways in the area.
If you don't feel like the beach, we're only a 30-minute drive from the spectacular and majestic
Oribi Gorge and its towering, awesome cliffs. On the way to Oribi, linger for a while and have snack
lunch at Leopard Rock Restaurant which overlooks the magnificent Umzimkulu River Gorge.
Then also on the way to Oribi there's the Lake Eland Game Reserve where you'll be able to spot
giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, warthog and many species of buck. The reserve is also a bird-watchers
paradise. A walk along the 80-metre suspension bridge to Eagle's Nest View Site is an adventure in
itself and mustn't be overlooked.
If you enjoy a flutter on the roulette wheel, the blackjack table or the slots, the Wild Coast Sun
Casino is only 40-minute drive down the coast from us. The resort on the banks of the Umtumvuna
River and overlooking the Indian Ocean, has among other attractions, a championship-rated
golf-course, tennis courts, swimming pools and a host of superb restaurants which cater for all
tastes. KZN's popular South Coast is also known as the Golf Coast, boasting 10 superb courses, one
of which one is literally on our doorstep.
Other activities in our area include whale-watching, deep-sea, beach and river fishing and scuba
diving.
We are pet friendly.
