Smithfield House is an oasis of comfort, hospitality and country atmosphere. Set in a beautiful private garden with huge trees, lawns and wonderful birdlife, there is plenty of secure parking, (some undercover), as well as a pool and tennis court for the use of guests. Two minutes from the centre of town, restaurants and all amenities, yet situated right away from the traffic noise of the N6, ensuring a good night's sleep.

The fine old Victorian Colonial house, with it's wide, pillared veranda, is elegantly furnished and decorated, with three spacious, comfortable, en-suite guest bedrooms. Two have showers only, and one a bath and shower as well as a small dressing-room. All have tea and coffee making facilities, bedroom and bathroom heaters and overhead fans. No children under 12 years of age

Breakfasts are served on the veranda in summer, or in the cosy dining room in winter. Packed breakfasts can be provided on request for guests needing to make an early departure.

Guests are welcome to wander the garden and grounds or visit the Studio gallery across the courtyard in the old coach-house. The Caledon River Museum in a lovely old building in town, displays a wealth of history, there are craft shops and galleries to visit, a very well maintained golf course nearby, an Art Route, and historic farms and game reserves in the surrounding Southern Free State.

Smithfield is not only just about "halfway from everywhere", and an ideal stopover on the "Friendly N6" tourist route, but a place to relax and explore unspoilt countryside and a more leisurely way of life.
